An interesting post from Michael.

Just looking at one point - We have also noticed a lot of companies wanting to avoid the term 'telemarketing' for the same reasons. There is a stigma that is conjured up when people mention the T word - which goes against the power behind it.

Possibly the B2C side has caused a lot of the damage - and we all loath B2C callers interrupting dinner.

I love the line of Michael "The phone is where the human engagement and business dialogue take place and where the lead can be developed into a genuine opportunity". This only means that communication is really important in the business world not just in sales but also in coordination with fellow business entities. Communication is the venue where relationships between b2b telemarketing company are built, particularly good conversations with business networks.

Mac and Michael,

Excellent, excellent interview. I have been besieged, due to the economy, by telemarketing calls -- I use that word intentionally -- from companies pitching me their products / services. It's getting to where I don't pick up my phone unless I know the person calling.

One thing I would recommend, and Michael, I think you've talked about this before but not in this interview, is that B2B marketers using the phone to conduct business should check out whom they are calling . . . before picking the phone.

LinkedIn, Twitter, Websites, Facebook -- you can find all kinds of information about your prospect in minutes. That way, you won't have a phone call like this:

Great interview Mac and Michael. Michael, you said, "The phone is where the human engagement and business dialogue take place and where the lead can be developed into a genuine opportunity. And yes, human beings do need to communicate LIVE! Beware the technology pitchers who allege that all lead nurturing or development can be done via e-mail." I couldn't agree more or have said it any better. Well done.
